Brosse les dents

Today's lesson to boost your French vocabulaire by using your existing English  knowledge, looks at teeth.

Brosse les dents means "brush the [your] teeth" in French.

So how can you remember that dents means teeth and not a dent in your fender?

English has several words which have originated from the French word dents.

A dentist is someone who looks after your teeth. To have healthy teeth you need good dental hygiene.

When you are in France if you need to visit a dentist, you would visit a dentiste.

The dentiste might comment on your dental hygiene using the words "hygiène dentaire"

The French word brosse [verb] means to brush and you should be able to see the similarity since brush and brosse are both derived from the same Latin word.

In English, a brush [noun] and to brush [verb] use the same word and in French, it's the same

"a tooth brush" is "une brosse à dents"
