Add richness to your French vocabulary

A few English words ending in ~ness have French equivalents ending in ~esse.

Richness becomes “richesse”. If you have richness you have wealth so richesse also means wealth.

There was a car made in Britain called a Triumph Vitesse. Vitesse means “fastness” or “speed”. Vite in French mean “fast” or “quick”.

If you have kindness you are gentle. In French “kindness” is “gentillesse”. You may also have tenderness to your kindness in which case you would have tendresse.

If you have a flexible body you are souple. Soupleness is flexibility or “souplesse”.

You probably know the French word for small is petit(e). Smallness is therefore petitesse.

You may have a weakness. If you have a weakness you may be feeble or frail so in French you would have faiblesse as a weakness.
